Some homes ask for one beautiful room. This one asked for a feeling that carried through every space, from the moment you open the front door to the last evening on the patio.

Starting with how the family lives

Every project begins with getting to know the people who live there. We talked about how each room is used day to day, where everyone gathers, and how the home should feel when guests arrive. That became our guide for every decision that followed.

A soft, cohesive palette

We built the home around soft plaster whites, light oak, and warm stone, then layered in black and brass accents for depth. Keeping the palette consistent lets each room flow into the next, while the details give every space its own personality.

Room by room

• Great room and kitchen: a waterfall island, brass pendants, and a crystal chandelier over the dining table, all framing the view of the hills.
• Living room: a long linear fireplace set into plaster, with a dark oak coffee table and a swivel chair made for curling up.
• Primary suite: a paneled accent wall, an upholstered bed, and a spa-like bath with a walk-in shower and double vanity.
• Patio: a concrete fire table and lounge seating, so the home extends outdoors.

The finishing touches

Styling is where a house becomes a home. Plaster niches filled with pottery and family photos, candles on stacked books, fresh greenery on the console: these small moments are what make a space feel warm and personal.

I believe a home should feel like a warm, elegant hug. Here are five of the principles I return to again and again when creating spaces that feel both beautiful and inviting.

1. Layer your lighting

One overhead light makes a room feel flat. Mix in table lamps, sconces, and candlelight at different heights, and choose warm bulbs. Soft, layered light is the quickest way to make a room glow in the evening.

2. Bring in natural textures

Wood, stone, linen, wool, and pottery add depth that a room can't get from color alone. Texture is what makes a neutral palette feel rich instead of cold.

3. Choose a calm, consistent palette

Carrying a few colors and finishes from room to room makes your whole home feel connected and serene. Let accents like brass or black repeat in small doses.

4. Display what holds meaning

Family photos, a treasured vase, books you love: these are what make a home yours. Give them a place of honor, and edit around them so they can shine.

5. Add something living

Greenery, fresh stems, or a small olive tree brings life and softness to any space. Even a single branch in a sculptural vase can change the feeling of a room.
